The air feels like fall and my body feels like it’s needing a little extra immune support. I hear all kinds of

are making rounds again.
So everyone in the house got a few extra doses of herbals this morning. I wanted to share what that looks like for us as I’m sitting in a detox bath right now.
Your first line of defense is a healthy diet. It’s not “flu season”, it’s sugar season! We have a candy holiday, followed by a pie holiday, then a cookie holiday, and soon after, a chocolate holiday! Do you know what sugar does in your body? It SHUTS DOWN your immune system altogether! It allows your body to be the perfect breeding ground for viruses, bacteria, and even fungi and parasites. You will do your system a huge favor by avoiding, or at least carefully limiting, processed white sugar and junk food as a whole.
That’s not to say you can’t enjoy any sweets! Just look for ones made with natural sweeteners like raw honey, maple syrup, or coconut sugar. Or make your own! We’ve got tons of great recipes in this group, and you’ll also find more saved in my instagram highlights.
You’ll also want to be flooding your body with nutrient dense foods like pasture raised meats. Pasture raised animal products are proven to contain many more nutrients than factory farm meats.
Of course fresh organic fruits and veggies are also a must.
Here are some more of our favorite ways to use herbs support a strong immune system.
Elderberry is full of potent antioxidants that have immune supporting properties. Researchers found that flu patients who received elderberry extract noticed a reduction in symptoms about four days sooner than those who received a placebo. We use it once everyday for immune support, or 3x a day if we are fighting something off.
Echinacea may strengthen your body’s immune system, helping you fight colds and flus caused by viruses or bacteria. Some research shows that the echinacea plant contains chemicals that help your body create white blood cells. When your upper respiratory tract (nose, mouth, and throat) becomes infected, these white blood cells work within your immune system to fight infection. Great to use daily this time of year.
This is my kids’ favorite way to support their immune systems. They like when I pack it cold in their lunch boxes. It’s delicious hot or cold. Think of it as Chai flavored Lemonade.I love making this with ingredients that warm my belly and soul. My recipe has 10X as much Vit c per serving as a glass of orange juice.
