Description

This is an all natural chest rub formulated to ease respiratory ailments. If applied to the temples and neck, this balm can also help with congestion and headaches, especially those caused by viral or bacterial infection. In my house we have seen this stuff work so well to help with Asthma, and with the unmentionable ick that we all first saw in 2020. Works even better if used together with my Breathe Well Tincture, Elderberry Syrup, and Fire Cider.

Mullein is an expectorant, which means it helps the body expel excess mucus, usually by helping to make your coughs more productive, and to then bring up mucus that may be settling in the chest or in the throat. It is also a demulcent, which provides soothing relief to the mucous membranes. Both qualities make it useful for soothing irritation of the lungs, throat, and bronchial passages that may lead to difficulty breathing. Scientists studying medicinal herbs in test-tube studies have been encouraged to see that mullein may have some strong antiviral effects. One study showed it was particularly useful against the influenza virus.

Mullein is used for cough, whooping cough, tuberculosis, bronchitis, hoarseness, pneumonia, earaches, colds, chills, flu, swine flu, fever, allergies, tonsillitis, and sore throat. Other uses include asthma, diarrhea, colic, gastrointestinal bleeding, migraines, joint pain, and gout.

My mullein balm also contains some other herbs for wellness support-

Eucalyptus- For many years, eucalyptus oil has been used to relieve coughing. Eucalyptus oil can not only silence a cough, it can also help you get the mucus out of your chest. The Australian aborigines used eucalyptus leaves to treat wounds and prevent infection. It’s also possible that eucalyptus blocks asthma symptoms.

Wintergreen- Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, wintergreen can help reduce inflammation in the airways. It has been used in traditional medicine for colds and bacterial infections. Wintergreen is also known to be an excellent pain reliever.

Peppermint- It is known to increase blood flow which can accelerate healing and pain relief. Peppermint has antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. In turn, it can help with infections in the chest or sinuses. Peppermint oil has been shown in studies to kill several types of bacteria, including Staphylococcus and pneumonia-linked bacteria. Peppermint’s capacity as a muscle relaxant may help you relax before bedtime, and using it over the sinuses can help with seasonal allergies.

Orange Essential Oil- This can help with airway spasms that cause continual coughing. It’s also known to be a mood booster and has a calming effect that can ease anxiety. Orange oil can also reduce inflammation in the airways and prevent infection.

Because of the strong nature of Eucalyptus, wintergreen, and peppermint, this balm should not be used on children under 3 years old, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. For that reason, I made a "Baby Chest Balm" as well! It still contains the amazing mullein, but in place of the other herbs I added lavender, pine, and a milder form of eucalyptus. These are still great for airway support, just gentler and safe for pregnant and nursing mamas, as well as babies 6 months and up.

Testimonials from our customers-

"I love your products! My soon to be 7 month old has had inconsistent sleep for 2.5 months and last night we were on day 2 on the Kids Sleep Tincture. She slept from 10:30-4 and did well before and after those times too. Also loving the Mullein Balm for my husband and I, we've had some congestion this week and it helped!"
