Usnea is a type of lichen that grows on the trees, bushes, and rocks. It has long been used in traditional medicine, and it’s regarded as a treatment for wounds and inflammation in folk medicine. Nowadays, usnea is commonly used to accelerate wound healing, and reduce pain and fever. Some people even suggest it may help fight certain types of cancer.
It has been shown in studies to reduce inflammation, speed wound healing by increasing the bodies own collagen production, and even protect against staph bacteria. Usnea is rich in polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that helps fight cell damage caused by unstable compounds known as free radicals.
