A broth fast is a great way to jumpstart a cleanse like a candida cleanse or parasite cleanse, an elimination diet, or simply a cleaner diet. It’s recommended to follow a broth fast for 1-3 days. In this period of time, your body will enter into a state of autophagy.
Benefits of Autophagy

* Keep DNA and genes stable.
* Avoid the premature deterioration and aging of cells.
* Improve conversion of nutrients into energy.
* Improve the elimination of waste.

* Help prevent tumor formation by eliminating toxic substances
Autophagy is believed to begin when glucose and insulin levels drop considerably. Depending on one’s metabolism, it may take anywhere from one to four days to get to autophagy.
Autophagy allows your body to break down and reuse old cell parts so your cells can operate more efficiently. It’s a natural cleaning out process that begins when your cells are stressed or deprived of nutrients. Researchers are studying autophagy’s role in potentially preventing and fighting disease.
A key sign of autophagy is reduced appetite. It’s likely due to changed levels of hormones like glucagon and insulin.
Proper hydration is also essential for autophagy to function optimally. Keep in mind that drinking clear fluids alone doesn’t hydrate you. It’s the minerals that keep your cells hydrated so remember to keep adding that Real Salt to your broth.
Bone Broth Recipe
My favorite broth to use, and the most beneficial, is bone broth. It’s easy to make at home just by saving bones from organic meat like chicken or beef. Simply add the bones to a slow cooker or pressure cooker and cover with water. In a slow cooker, you’ll want to let it cook for 24-48 hours. In a pressure cooker it will only take about 4 hours. You want the bones to be crumbly when it’s done. That’s how you know you’ve extracted all the minerals and goodness out of them. Then just strain, add a bit of Real salt .
and sip! Real Salt is what I recommend using for our whole cleanse period because of its very high mineral content.

Veggie Broth Recipe
You can also make a vegetable broth from veggies like organic onions, garlic, celery, kale, Real Salt and pure water. Let it simmer for 45 min and strain. Discard or compost the vegetables, or keep them in. If you prefer not to make your own veggie broth, here is a great one to purchase.
Throughout the day, sip on warm broth. It’s important that you drink lots of water to help your body expel all the toxins in your system.
While this is not a long-term cleanse, it can be repeated as needed every few weeks.
