Description
A tincture is an infusion of an herb or herbs, for medicinal use. Certain preparations of liquids are used to extract the beneficial plant compounds out of the plant solids. My tinctures are highly concentrated so a few drops goes a long way. To use a tincture, simply add a few drops to a glass of water and drink it. All of our bottles are labeled with instructions.
Motherwort is used for heart conditions, including heart failure, irregular heartbeat, fast heartbeat, and heart symptoms due to anxiety. It is also used for the absence of menstrual periods, intestinal gas , and overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).
In addition to being a source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, motherwort contains leonurine, a compound found to promote the relaxation of blood vessel walls in preliminary studies.2 Interestingly, it's this same substance that's been shown to encourage uterine contractions, lending support to its traditional use in childbirth and as a promoter of menstruation.
Studies show motherwort may help with anxiety with long-term use.
Among those who should not take motherwort: People with bleeding disorders or those taking blood thinners, due to motherwort's anti-platelet activity. Those taking sedative medications. People planning to undergo surgery. Not for children or for early stages of pregnancy.
